With everything that’s happening in the world, Hope Camp looked a little different this summer.
Just like last summer, we spent the week learning about God’s promises and getting powered up with some of our favorite superheroes.
But, for the first time, we hosted camp online.
Our Elbow Lake team mailed care packages to each camper in the village of Elbow Lake, filmed songs and skits for each day and hosted fun games and activities in their Hope Camp Memories Facebook group.
We shared those videos and more on our Facebook page so all our campers on the White Earth Reservation could participate — and all our friends across the country could get a glimpse of what we do at Hope Camp.
Here’s a quick recap of our first-ever Hope Camp Online, organized June 22-26, 2020, by our Elbow Lake team.
Day One: God is always with us
This week, we’re getting powered up with Jesus. Let’s start with some songs and more fun with our Elbow Lake team and a prayer for our time together. Our memory verse is Joshua 1:9:“Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go.”
These words remind us that Creator gives us hope even when fun things are canceled and we miss hanging out with our friends and family.

Day Two: Power up!
Today we’re going to learn about how Creator’s Spirit can help us feel powered up when we are sad. Our memory verse is Isaiah 40:31:“Those who trust in the Lord will receive new strength. They will fly high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.”
River mentioned a Bible app he likes to use during this morning’s video. Here’s a link to one Bible app you can use on your phone or computer. Here’s one way we can build our own tents and go camping together just like Brave and his friends without ever leaving our homes. Here’s a fun puzzle you can make online. Today we’re going to learn how Creator gives us the power to do hard things like loving our enemies. Our memory verse is Luke 6:27-28:“Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who call down curses on you. And pray for those who treat you badly.”
Who wants a pickleee?! River, Brave, Niimi and Evil Hot Dog enjoyed our favorite Hope Camp snack in this morning’s video. And they’re not the only ones! Our friends from Lakes Area Vineyard Church, part of the Elbow Lake team, did a socially distant pickle delivery to Elbow Lake Hope Campers this past weekend. Hey, hey! Today at Hope Camp Online we’re going to learn how Creator’s power can help us be kind to others. Our memory verse is Ephesians 4:32:“Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.”
Do you know what “tender” means? It means to show gentleness and concern or sympathy. Creator’s power can help us be kind and tender to others. We always like to ask at camp, “Where did you see God today?” Let’s ask Creator God to reveal Himself to us today in creation. Take a picture of what you find and share it with us on Facebook.
